Ortigia is small enough to explore on foot in a day, but rich enough to fill a week.
Start early, when the stalls of the market are being set up around the Temple of Apollo. Have a granita and brioche, then walk to Piazza Duomo before the tour groups arrive.

Ortigia is a book of stone: every page is a different century.
